Raising humans to be human in a human

Our mission is to cultivate authentic, healthy families.

How we raise our kids isn’t about a step-by-step method...

...it’s about the values we instill and the relationships we form.

Behaviors will change as a child grows, but strong values and bonds last a lifetime.

Research has shown that intentional and consistent time spent with a child has a more positive impact on their mental development than any schedule or “hack” intended to make the short-term easier.

Dr. Bocknek’s own research has focused on supportive and consistent relationships formed in early childhood that grow with children and become the basis for emotion regulation that is meaningful and long-lasting. We will teach you how to focus on what really matters and let go of other things that don’t.

At Convo…

we value
Optimism

  • We truly believe in the power of families. We believe that parenting, though difficult, is one of the most rewarding and joyful endeavors available to humankind. We will always champion the bright side, because it’s real and worth the effort. We’re living it now, you can too.

we value
Relationships

  • We know that strong, positive relationships are the key to cultivating authentic, healthy families, addressing root issues behind behavioral problems, and creating a healthy environment at home. We know, not just based on our personal experiences, but because we have the science to back it up.

we value
The Science

  • We will always offer advice and insight based on our education, training, and experience as doctors in the field of child and family mental health. Our principles are based on science, not just our personal experiences, and we will always do the work to make that science accessible.

we value
humanity

  • We love humanity in all its forms, and so we are constantly working to decolonize the science and practice of mental health. Consistent with that view, first and foremost, we know for sure that love is what makes a family. Second, we are moving away from a definition of mental health that seeks power and control--over ourselves, our loved ones, and those with whom we share this world. We draw our central axioms from Black psychology frameworks that emphasize the importance of interconnectedness as core to mental wellness.

We believe in parenting kids for the future, not just the now.

We help parents, educators, and clinicians establish family values and cultivate relationships through science-backed principles and a personal approach. We don’t sell one-size-fits-all “strategies” or step-by-step “hacks”. But we can offer ways to address behavioral challenges and make positive impacts on a child’s mental health.

The mental health of a child is the mental health of the future.
